D'Leon Consulting Engineers is a leading engineering firm specializing in airport capital improvement projects. We are seeking a highly experienced Design Manager II to join our team in Los Angeles, California.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled Design Manager II to lead our multi-disciplined team in planning, designing, permitting, procuring, constructing, and activating various airport capital improvement projects for the LAX Capital Improvement Program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aviation engineering, project management, and team leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of planners, architects, engineers, and other professionals to guide the planning, design, permitting, procurement, construction, and activation of airport capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with clients and stakeholders to develop business cases for potential capital projects.
  • Develop and present preliminary design alternatives and comparative analysis to address requests and concerns from LAX leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Review planning and design submittals for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to project requirements.
  • Solicit feedback from internal and external project stakeholders and guide design teams through competing interests and project constraints.
  • Manage planning and design efforts throughout all stages of a project to ensure projects fulfill their mission while remaining on-schedule and on-budget.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions as projects advance from planning through design, procurement, construction, and activation.
  • Manage design efforts across multiple projects to ensure a cohesive architectural statement and user experience throughout the LAX campus.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with preparing planning documents and preliminary design packages for capital projects.
  • Experience with preparing comprehensive design and construction documents.
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods.
  • Experience with aviation and associated regulatory agencies.
  • Experience with plan-check and permitting.
  • Familiarity with the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of airport facilities.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in architecture, engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of professional experience, preferably on large complex airport capital projects.
  • Licensed architect or engineer is desirable but not required.
  • Optional certifications such as AAAE, CASp, LEED, PMP, etc. are desirable.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and planning and design software.
