Position Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering both administrative and clinical assistance to healthcare providers and professionals within the clinic, ensuring efficient patient flow and high-quality care. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including performing essential medical tasks, managing patient records, and coordinating various administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Aids healthcare practitioners in managing patient care within the office.
  • Welcomes patients in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner, representing North Star Health positively.
  • Conducts initial patient assessments to collect and document relevant information regarding their visit in accordance with established protocols.
  • Measures and records vital signs appropriately based on patient age and visit purpose.
  • Assists providers with laboratory orders and medical procedures.
  • Performs comprehensive chart reviews prior to patient visits, identifying outstanding lab results and necessary clinical documents.
  • Ensures cleanliness of examination rooms between patient visits, adhering to best practice standards.
  • Manages medical supplies in examination areas, including monitoring for expired items.
  • Collaborates with the patient care team to enhance patient care and communicates with external entities such as pharmacies and community organizations.
  • Works alongside a multidisciplinary team to facilitate timely access to healthcare services for patients.
  • Communicates results and treatment plans to patients as directed by healthcare providers, ensuring adherence to established policies.
  • Provides assistance to patients for mobility and safety during their visits.
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive documentation within the medical record, ensuring proper spelling and grammar.
  • Assists with procedures as directed by healthcare providers, including specimen collection and documentation of results.
  • Adheres to quality control standards for laboratory and refrigerated items.
  • Monitors emergency medical supplies and equipment.
  • Processes prescription refills in accordance with established policies.
  • Administers vaccines and medications following the seven rights of medication administration.
  • Prioritizes patient safety at all times.
  • Demonstrates adaptability in work schedule and location based on organizational needs.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification is mandatory.

Experience and Skills:

  • Previous experience in a medical assistant role within a physician's office is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and innovative thinking.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, and time-management capabilities.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Strong collaborative skills to work with team members.
  • Discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Proficient documentation, communication, and technology skills.
  • A commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery.
