KBR is looking for a mid-level Systems Engineer to assist government clients in the Washington Metropolitan Area. The Systems Engineer for GEOINT Testing will provide the necessary expertise and skillsets to effectively develop, coordinate, and implement a risk-based GEOINT product quality assessment program. This role will utilize systems engineering methodologies pertinent to DoD acquisition programs to facilitate comprehensive risk assessments of GEOINT data and GEOINT TCPED capabilities, thereby creating thorough quality evaluation studies. This position will also maintain awareness of upcoming updates to the NSG, including systems, capabilities, and sensors through the review and coordination of Mission Partner Requests for Change (RFC), examination of system documentation, and schedule tracking. Furthermore, this role will aid in the development and upkeep of standard operating procedures (SOPs), Concept of Operations (CONOPs), work instructions, and other documentation to ensure standardization and continuity in the risk-based strategy across all product quality initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain functional knowledge of the National System for GEOINT (NSG), systems engineering processes, and GEOINT capabilities within NSG legacy and cloud environments.
  • Assist in the early review of product quality requirements for NSG system development, upgrades, sensor integration, and other enhancements through Request for Change (RFC) evaluations.
    • Coordinate Subject Matter Expert (SME) reviews of related RFCs and supporting documents to assess product quality risks and impacts.
    • Document feedback and impacts to RFC Points of Contact (POCs) and monitor RFC approval processes.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of product quality SOPs, CONOPs, architectural designs, handbooks, strategic plans, and reference materials.
  • Support program milestone events, including Test Planning Meetings and Operational Acceptance Tests, providing recommendations based on assessments, analyses, and coordination efforts; conduct risk assessments and product quality evaluations in collaboration with program offices.
  • Deliver Product Quality risk assessments for ad hoc Image Quality support requests from mission partners, stakeholders, DoD Service components, NGA team member organizations, and others.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or related technical/scientific fields such as engineering, physics, mathematics, operations research, engineering management, Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related STEM degree.
  • 4-7 years of relevant experience in government or industry, particularly in areas such as DoD/IC Acquisition Process, Requirements Process, PPBES Process, or systems engineering of large complex System of Systems or Service Oriented Architecture/Cloud environments.
  • Strong comprehension of the systems engineering lifecycle, including independent testing and data verification, requirements, and the development of concept of operations. Ability to define product format requirements for new products to ensure integration and interoperability within the NSG.
  • Experience in developing and assessing product quality requirements and specifications, with a background in image science, particularly in image processing, image formation, optics, and digital signal processing.
  • Application of image science knowledge to create test plans and procedures for evaluating data quality and accuracy.
  • Experience in identifying data needs to effectively conduct product assessments to meet testing objectives, including software functionality and quality testing.
  • Basic knowledge of image science to quantify the visual quality of imagery products and collaborate with developers to troubleshoot errors. Experience in developing engineering-quality verification tools.
  • Proficiency in software development to support systems engineering tasks and data analysis, specifically in C/C++, Python, JAVA, Matlab, IDL, and/or scripting languages.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Systems Engineering or related technical/scientific fields such as engineering, physics, mathematics, operations research, engineering management, Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related STEM degree.

Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI (with polygraph preferred)
