This recruitment aims to fill multiple full-time positions for Culinary Service Associates within University Housing and Dining Services.



The primary purpose of this role is to execute routine food service, cashiering, and sanitation tasks within a retail food service setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Duties may encompass: providing customer service, preparing food and beverages, serving meals, handling cash transactions, operating dishwashing equipment, maintaining cleanliness, restocking supplies, supervising student workers, and managing opening and closing procedures.

The Culinary Team is devoted to providing an inspiring culinary experience through a food-first philosophy, integrating nutrition, quality, and passion into our offerings. This team is committed to sustainable practices, food innovation, and supportive work environments. Food serves as a medium to express these values while educating students, staff, guests, and the broader university community.


This position is eligible for meal benefits as per the relevant contract.

All duties must adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by OSU and University Housing and Dining Services.

Position Responsibilities:
55% FOOD PREPARATION, SAFETY & SANITATION - Execute routine food service tasks, including cleaning, beverage dispensing, meal serving, and restocking.

  • Participate in the preparation of standardized food items and beverages as required.
  • Ensure adherence to proper preparation procedures for all menu items by following recipes and accommodating customer preferences.
  • Utilize food service equipment, including grills, fryers, ovens, steamers, and dishwashing machines.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary operation by performing established cleaning duties and following health department guidelines for safe food handling.
  • Prepare sanitation solutions and change them out regularly.
  • Document food and equipment temperatures as required.
  • Care for equipment according to established schedules.

  • Ensure all dishes and utensils are washed and stored in a timely and sanitary manner.
  • Sanitize serving and preparation areas according to established procedures.
  • Manage waste disposal in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas throughout the shift.
  • Open and close the unit as needed, ensuring cleanliness and proper stocking.
  • Adhere to safety and sanitation standards.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or equipment issues to management immediately.

20% CUSTOMER SERVICE - Welcome customers and colleagues with a positive demeanor.

  • Serve customers promptly and courteously.
  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service.
  • Ensure quality products are prepared and that dining areas are clean.
  • Open the location on time.
  • Present food attractively while adhering to portion control guidelines.
  • Maintain high standards of service and production.
  • Provide information about menu items when requested.

  • Operate cash registers, following procedures for cash handling.
  • Contribute to the development of customer service improvements.
  • Communicate customer feedback and suggestions to management.

15% ASSISTANCE TO LEAD WORKER: - Support students in the safe and proper use of equipment.

  • Assist student employees in food preparation and portioning.
  • Guide student employees in customer service, food safety, and cash handling.
  • Promote cleanliness and assist students in maintaining sanitation standards.
