This recruitment will be utilized to fill multiple full-time, academic year (10 month) Culinary Service Associate positions for University Housing and Dining Services at Oregon State University.



The primary purpose of this role is to execute routine food service, cashiering, and sanitation tasks within a retail food service setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver exceptional customer service, prepare food and beverages, serve meals, manage cashier duties, operate dishwashing equipment, maintain cleanliness, stock supplies, guide student workers, and oversee the opening and closing of the location.

University Housing and Dining Services accommodates over 4,800 students and offers a variety of living and dining options across multiple residence halls, dining centers, retail locations, and a market.

As an auxiliary enterprise, we are funded solely by the customers who utilize our services and do not receive any State or General fund allocations.

This role will adhere to all Oregon State University and University Housing and Dining Services policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities:
55% FOOD PREPARATION, SAFETY & SANITATION - Execute routine food service tasks, including cleaning, beverage dispensing, serving prepared meals, and stocking supplies.

  • Engage in the preparation of standardized food items and/or beverages as required.
  • Ensure adherence to proper preparation procedures for all menu items by following recipes and customer preferences when applicable.
  • Utilize food service equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, steamers, and dish machines.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary operation by performing established cleaning duties and following health department guidelines for safe food handling.
  • Prepare sanitation solutions and change them out regularly.
  • Document food, refrigeration, and dish machine temperatures as required.
  • Care for equipment according to established schedules.

Ensure that all dishes and utensils are washed and handled in a sanitary manner and returned to their appropriate storage areas promptly.Clean and sanitize food preparation and dishwashing areas according to established procedures.Manage waste and recycling containers in accordance with established procedures.Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas throughout the shift.Set up and open the unit or ensure it is clean and stocked at the end of the shift.Follow safety and sanitation standards diligently.Report any unsafe conditions or equipment repairs needed to management immediately.

  • Serve both internal and external customers promptly and courteously.
  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service.
  • Ensure high-quality products are prepared and that seating areas are clean.
  • Open the location on time.

  • Maintain established high standards of service and production.
  • Provide information about served products when requested.

  • Operate a cash register, following procedures for cash handling and payment processing.
  • Contribute to the development and support of customer service improvements.
  • Communicate customer and student employee feedback to management.

15% ASSISTANCE TO LEAD WORKER: - Support students in the safe and proper use of equipment.

  • Assist student employees in food and beverage preparation and portioning.
  • Guide student employees in customer service, food safety, stocking, and cash handling.
  • Promote cleanliness and assist students with sanitation practices.
