Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Senior Performance Engineer to contribute to our engineering initiatives.

This role involves conducting advanced structural simulations of power systems to assess the viability of engine, transmission, lower powertrain, and driveline designs for durability and reliability.

As a seasoned individual contributor, you will engage in complex projects and tasks that enhance Caterpillar's product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability.

This position represents a pivotal level for engineering functions, requiring substantial expertise in one or more technical domains.

The primary responsibility of a Senior Performance Engineer is to serve as an individual contributor.

This role is accountable for identifying, analyzing, and addressing needs and challenges within a discipline, where the incumbent is beginning to establish a reputation as an expert.

Responsibilities include executing intricate structural simulations of Caterpillar power systems to evaluate the acceptability of designs for durability and reliability while identifying and resolving issues.

The main focus of this position is on technical delivery. Incumbents may collaborate with various units, suppliers, customers, and other teams, while also developing general and business skills. Effective communication of technical information in a clear and precise manner is essential.

Impact of Decisions:

The decisions made in this role can significantly influence product performance, durability, quality, reliability, and serviceability; negotiations with suppliers; the adoption of new technologies; warranty considerations; total cost of non-quality; expenses; sales; and customer perceptions.


Qualifications:

A Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science, Aero-Astronautics Engineering, or a closely related field is required.

5 years of experience in linear and nonlinear Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and structural simulation of mechanical systems or a related field is necessary.

Alternatively, a Master's or foreign equivalent degree in the aforementioned fields is acceptable, along with 2 years of experience in linear and nonlinear Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and structural simulation of mechanical systems or a related field.

Additionally, candidates must possess 1 year of professional experience with:
(1) Creo or similar commercial CAD software; (2) Abaqus; (3) Hypermesh; (4) Fatigue life calculations; and (5) Simulation of bolted joints and welded structures.
