About the Role

The University of Illinois Chicago is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Quality to join its Oncology Service Line. This key role will oversee and coordinate all aspects of quality improvement initiatives across the oncology care continuum, ensuring that the quality of cancer care exceeds recognized national and institutional standards and benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the analysis of current clinical practices, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies to implement and evaluate quality improvement changes.
  • Partner with OSL Medical Director, Senior Director of Administration and Clinical Operations, and IPU Physician Leaders to joint initiatives across UI Health.
  • Coordinate and execute quality improvement activities within the Oncology IPU for all individual tumor sites using Quality and Safety Transformation (QST) principles.
  • Work with clinical and operational leaders to implement prioritized operational and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with IPU Physician Leaders and teams to design and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Oversee accreditation functions and ensure compliance with standards set by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC).
  • Assist in monitoring and managing OSL Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Perform data collection and reporting of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with OSL Strategic Project Manager to support evidence-based project management approaches.
  • Serve as a resource for education and training on quality improvement methodologies.
  • Provide training for certified and non-certified staff who perform case finding, abstracting, and follow-up.
  • Serves as the system administrator for OSL Tumor Registry ERS.
  • Recruits, hires, and supervises staff, including ongoing coaching, development, and performance management.
  • Manages expenses and budget for the OSL Tumor Registry unit.
  • Assumes responsibility for ad hoc or other special projects delegated by the OSL Medical Director.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Public Health, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with the standards and survey process of an organization that includes accreditation.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Quality Improvement (QI) work experience in a healthcare delivery setting.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful managerial or supervisory leadership.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and data analytic skills.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships and partnerships across all levels of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to be flexible, approachable, and inspire trust.
  • Exercise good judgment, and demonstrate effective critical thinking skills.
