We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Blood Bank Operations Supervisor to join our team at BioReference Health, LLC. As a key member of our clinical laboratory team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Blood Bank, ensuring the validity and accuracy of test results, and coordinating staff, materials, and equipment needs.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and Coordinate Blood Bank Staff: Supervise and train Blood Bank staff, including authorizing overtime as needed to ensure efficient workflow and adequate coverage.
- Schedule and Coordinate Staff: Responsible for scheduling of staff and ensuring appropriate coverage of the Blood Bank 24/7.
- Oversee Transfusion Requests: Oversees timely filling of all transfusion requests, prepares blood or blood products for patient use, and reports to the Blood Bank Director on a timely basis related to technical and professional problems.
- Ensure Compliance: Ensures compliance with AABB, FDA, CAP, DNV, and Department of Health Standards for blood according to usage and projected need.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures: Develops Standard Operating Procedures for the Blood Bank.
- Monitor Quality Control: Performs periodic quality control checks on equipment, reviews daily quality control performed by others, and monitors supplies of reagents and lab supplies.
- Provide Training and Education: Actively assists in in-service education of the staff and develops and teaches new testing and other lab procedures to subordinates, other lab techs, and new employees.
- Consult with Pathologists and Lab Administrator: Consults with the pathologists and lab administrator on difficult, unusual, and other daily operational procedures.
- Coordinate Daily Laboratory Operations: Coordinates daily laboratory operations as per safety standards of the lab.
- Provide Coverage as a Technologist: Provides coverage as a technologist when needed.
- Experience: Minimum of six (6) years' experience as a licensed NYS clinical laboratory technologist required. Prior supervisory experience, preferred.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related degree, required.
- Licenses/Certifications: Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
- Other: Possess excellent communication and organizational skills, ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment, ability to perform accurately and consistently under high stress, and computer literacy and familiarity with the operation of basic office software.
