Job Summary:

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for performing specialized technical analyses of blood specimens leading to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in the laboratory at Health Alliance. This role involves ensuring the receipt, recording, grouping, and labeling of specimens and the communication of test results to the attending physician.

This position requires a strong understanding of medical technology principles, techniques, and procedures, as well as the ability to operate modern laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field and be licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by the New York State Education Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform various types of clinical analyses in the core laboratory, including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Special Hematology, manual testing, and Coagulation on blood specimens, urine, body fluid, and other specimen types.
  • Conduct tests such as Chemistry panels, thyroid testing, therapeutic drugs, and drugs of abuse, complete blood count (CBC) with differential, other hematology testing, Urinalysis with microscopic, PT/PTT testing, ROTEM analysis, and other clinical tests.
  • Interpret test results, review, and verify result reports.
  • Operate automated or specialized equipment and perform maintenance or troubleshoot as needed.
  • Confers with attending or referral physician, nursing staff, or other provider on test results and ensures their immediate notification when critical limits of specified test results are exceeded.
  • Provide technical assistance as needed throughout the core laboratory.
  • Participate in validation studies in setting up new procedures and equipment.
  • Perform quality control testing, documenting remedial action taken for detected deficiencies and defects.
  • Ensure the proper preparing, storing, dispensing, and periodic evaluation of reagents to assure the accuracy and precision of test results.
  • May provide training to new technologists/technicians in the core laboratory.
  • Read, understand, and follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all tests, processes, and testing platforms.
  • Reports and escalates any issues to the department supervisor.
  • Performs testing on proficiency samples in the same manner as patient samples.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 0-2 years of experience as a clinical lab technologist, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or equivalent experience, required.
  • Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by the New York State Education Department, required.
