Key Responsibilities
The Environment, Health & Safety Engineer plays a crucial role in providing EHS support for Incyte's research operations, as well as across the organization. Responsibilities encompass:
- Managing EHS programs that may include chemical safety, biosafety, contractor safety, emergency preparedness, radioactive material management, office and lab ergonomics, environmental compliance, and general safety.
- Developing and implementing EHS programs, procedures, and systems tailored to the needs of a growing organization.
- Identifying applicable safety and environmental regulations and standards relevant to operations.
- Effectively communicating requirements to research personnel and offering hands-on support to devise solutions as necessary.
- Maintaining comprehensive records, reports, and correspondence utilizing computer databases and software applications.
- Organizing and conducting regular safety education and training sessions for all staff, creating courses to address EHS needs, and determining the most effective delivery methods.
- Participating in formal and informal safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and unsafe conditions, following up with recommendations for corrective actions and tracking their completion.
- Investigating accidents and injuries to ascertain causes and prepare recommendations for prevention, assisting with risk management and worker's compensation claims.
- Evaluating operations to identify potential hazards and proactively mitigate risks, collaborating with internal teams to ensure safety and compliance while facilitating research.
- Staying technically proficient and current with new developments in the industry.
- Exhibiting strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate relationships as a trusted resource for internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience in EHS support for research laboratories, with a preference for experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- A four-year degree (BA or BS) in safety, environmental protection, engineering, or a related field.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and presentation skills, with comfort in discussing requirements across all organizational levels.
- Proven problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking skills.
- EHS-related certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM) are advantageous.
