Job Overview

Position Summary

The Development Support Specialist will collaborate closely with the Director of Advancement and the administrative team to ensure the seamless execution of our fundraising initiatives. This role will also be responsible for managing both internal and external communications for the organization. Please note that this is not a supervisory role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain the donor management system (Bloomerang).
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of print and digital communications to donors, including regular newsletters and biannual direct mail fundraising appeals.
  • Assist in scheduling, preparing for, and providing administrative support for Advancement Committee meetings, fundraising campaigns, and events.
  • Coordinate donor tours and site visits as required.
  • Provide confidential donor administration support and fundraising updates to the Executive Director.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Advancement, manage the annual calendar for grant submission deadlines and maintain grant tracking spreadsheets.
  • Conduct research and provide insights on potential funding opportunities.
  • Assist with grant writing tasks, including research and compiling narratives for various applications and reports.
  • Develop and manage engaging content for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) in partnership with the Director of Advancement.
  • Create visually appealing promotional and marketing materials for both electronic and print communications.
  • Maintain and update the LearningWorks website as necessary.
  • Prepare press releases and other media materials as needed.
  • Coordinate internal communications, including managing weekly updates for the administrative team.
  • Support the development and execution of the overall Advancement strategy.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; a B.S/B.A. is preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years in a similar role, demonstrating:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and a commitment to task completion.
  • A positive demeanor, confidence, common sense, and effective listening skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of various cultures and organizations.
  • High emotional intelligence, with the ability to build meaningful relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in email marketing software, MS Office suite, Adobe suite, social media platforms, and internet navigation.
  • Experience with database management and data entry, preferably using Bloomerang.

Working Conditions:

This position involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The role requires routine standing and walking, close visual acuity, and the ability to adjust focus quickly. The employee may need to lift and move items weighing up to 15 pounds. This is a professional office environment with occasional travel required. Flexibility in working hours may be necessary.
