Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts evaluations, administers, and documents various respiratory therapy interventions for both ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients with cardiac and pulmonary conditions in a hospital setting, including intensive care and emergency services.
  • Sets up and oversees complex respiratory devices such as volume and pressure ventilators for critically ill patients.
  • Delivers routine respiratory treatments including oxygen therapy, therapeutic aerosols, intermittent positive pressure breathing, incentive spirometry, and airway management, including intubation and tracheotomy care.
  • Monitors patients for any adverse reactions and implements corrective measures as per established protocols.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of administered therapies and provides recommendations to physicians regarding patient treatment plans.
  • Responsible for providing resuscitation services, participating in training programs, and offering educational support to students, while also engaging in quality improvement initiatives and departmental projects.
  • This role is available across multiple locations, with consistent job requirements and responsibilities across the board.

Essential Duties

Delivers respiratory patient care, including Aerosol Therapy, arterial blood gas analysis, endotracheal intubation, bronchial procedures, electrocardiograms, chest physiotherapy, ventilator management, and CPAP/BIPAP therapy, adhering to departmental safety and procedural standards.

Continuously evaluates and monitors the cardiopulmonary status of patients using data from physical assessments and diagnostic tools.

Records all activities in the relevant computer systems, ensuring accurate billing in line with departmental protocols.

Cultural Sensitivity and Competence: Demonstrates effective communication skills and an understanding of how cultural factors influence patient interactions and care delivery.

Patient Population Served: Exhibits knowledge and skills pertinent to the specific patient demographics served by the department.

Participates in the transfer of equipment and supplies between departments as needed; responsible for cleaning, assembling, and maintaining respiratory care equipment, as well as restocking supplies.

Performs additional related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Must have graduated from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program and possess at least one year of recent clinical experience in Respiratory Care, demonstrating the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience in specialized areas is preferred.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Must hold a valid license to practice as a respiratory care practitioner through the Washington State Department of Health.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required within six months of hire, with a 12-month grace period for those hired before a specified date.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Respiratory Therapists working in Hyperbaric Medicine must complete a Certified Hyperbaric Training course and obtain the Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT) license within 120 days.
  • New hires in Hyperbaric Medicine will attend the Certified Hyperbaric Training course after the introductory period, followed by an additional 480 hours of on-the-job training to achieve the CHT license.

Compensation

The pay rate for this position is $51.26 per hour.
