Job Summary

This is a professional work performed as an Officer of the Court where the selected applicant will function as a lead Probation and Parole Officer with responsibility for training and supervising new Probation and Parole Officers within a district.

Key Responsibilities
  • Train new Probation and Parole Officers in the techniques of case management and the counseling of offenders with a wide variety of sanctions.
  • Develop and implement effective case plans to address the criminogenic needs of offenders.
  • Conduct in-depth risk and needs assessments to identify the most effective interventions for offenders.
  • Provide training and support to new Probation and Parole Officers to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and organizations to provide comprehensive services to offenders.
Requirements
  • Must be a current North Carolina Probation/Parole Officer with at least two years' experience.
  • Must have experience applying the principles of evidence-based practice in daily activities.
  • Must have experience using worksheets to address criminogenic needs, specifically Carey Guides, Thinking reports, BITS tools, and/or Decisional Balance.
  • Must have working knowledge of offender supervision strategies and their appropriate application, treatment services, and accessing community resources.
Working Conditions

This position requires working flexible hours, including days, nights, and weekends, emergency response, and on-call availability. The incumbent must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound judgments in high-pressure situations.
