Poultry Research Coordinator

As a key member of the Inova Health System team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our poultry operations. The Poultry Research Coordinator will be responsible for supervising and managing Flock Advisors, farm workers, contract farms, and/or research farm associates.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal science and be able to develop and monitor a range of programs to ensure the meeting of company goals and objectives. This will include growing, vaccinating, and feed programs, as well as other various measurements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Travelling to Growout facilities, poultry houses, and/or research farms to monitor conditions and ensure bird health.
  • Providing leadership, training, and coaching to associates and producers to ensure all company policies and programs are being met.
  • Complying with company requirements regarding bio-security, food safety, and poultry welfare programs and policies.
  • Coordinating all resources necessary to conduct research trials, including chicks, feed, fuel, litter, labor, live haul, processing, and yield.
  • Generating and maintaining all records according to specific trial protocols and implementing programs to ensure accuracy of all research data.
  • Reviewing data for inaccuracies and implementing corrective actions.
  • Establishing operating procedures to minimize bird stress and optimize the quality of research data.
  • Ensuring a safe working environment for associates working on the site.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 0-3 years of experience, and strong communication, reading, math, and analytical skills. A valid driver's license and computer literacy with skills in Microsoft are also required. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate at all levels of the organization and travel to other facilities and plant locations.

Physical requirements include being able to work in all locations, including hatcheries, feed mills, chicken houses, and processing plants. The candidate will be exposed to seasonal weather conditions, airborne dust, and feathers. In a plant environment, they may be exposed to wet and moist floors, temperatures of 28-100 degrees Fahrenheit, and noise ranges of 50-110 db. Protective and safety equipment will be required.
