Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired to join our team at the State of South Carolina. As a key member of our Vision Outreach Services division, you will play a critical role in providing educational and adaptive services to students who are blind or visually impaired.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist local school districts and statewide early intervention programs in assessing students who are blind or visually impaired and reporting their educational and adaptive needs.
  • Work with families and local school districts to schedule lessons, adapt instructional materials, and provide instruction in Braille, use of residual vision, Orientation and Mobility, and other areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum.
  • Assist in the development of individualized education plans or individual family service plans based on assessments.
  • Participate in IFSP and IEP meetings.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree with SC Teacher's Licensure in Visual Impairment.
  • Two years of experience working with students (birth to 21 years) who are blind or visually impaired.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with parents, teachers, and other professionals in the provision of services.
  • Proficiency in the teaching of Braille and other adaptive skills needed by students who are blind or visually impaired.
  • Considerable knowledge of methods to evaluate the educational needs of blind or visually impaired students.
