ABOUT THE COUNTRY CLUB OF SPARTANBURG

Established in 1908, The Country Club of Spartanburg is a prestigious private, member-owned establishment recognized for its strong sense of community and warm, inviting atmosphere.

This family-oriented club provides a diverse range of social and recreational activities, making it a central hub for its members.

At the core of the Club is its historic 18-hole, par-72 golf course, designed in the tradition of Donald Ross.

This course, steeped in history and prestige, has hosted numerous high-profile tournaments and is known for the Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational, attracting top-ranked junior players.

The club's golf course has been home to several members who have qualified for major championships over the years, with ongoing renovations enhancing its appeal.

In addition to golf, the Country Club of Spartanburg features a top-ranked Tennis Program that offers both competitive and recreational play.

Members take pride in this program, which has seen many juniors excel at the collegiate level.

The Club is currently investing in an enhancement project that will introduce new tennis and pickleball facilities.

Fitness and wellness are integral to the Club's offerings, with a dedicated team providing a variety of programs, including yoga and personal training.

The recently renovated pool complex is a vibrant space for family gatherings and special events.

POSITION OVERVIEW OF THE COO/GM
The COO/GM will possess a strong sense of ownership over all daily operations of The Country Club of Spartanburg.

This individual will oversee and manage all facets of operations, including amenities, staff, and programs, ensuring exceptional service for members and guests.

While all typical competencies are essential, we seek a COO/GM who enjoys being actively engaged and approachable by both members and staff, is proactive in embracing new trends in family-centric club operations, and has a visible passion for the industry.

Additionally, the COO/GM must demonstrate sound judgment, recognizing what is effective and what may require enhancement.

They must also be capable of identifying and defining club traditions while evolving the Club to secure long-term success.


CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in a family-oriented, private, member-owned club environment is preferred.

Strong general management skills with a proven track record in team development and fiscal management across operating and capital budgets are essential.

A history of achieving positive member engagement and satisfaction levels within changing demographics is crucial.

Passion for the role, along with a positive demeanor conducive to a personalized member and staff-centric environment, is required.

A strong leader who demonstrates team development and possesses exceptional organizational skills is essential for achieving high levels of quality and satisfaction.


EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management is preferred, although substantial experience in private clubs or hospitality may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Industry certifications such as CCM or PGA are encouraged but not mandatory.
