Position Overview:

Library Systems & Services is in search of a meticulous and experienced Hungarian Language Catalog Specialist. In this role, you will be tasked with the cataloging of a diverse collection of Hungarian language literature for a significant federal library.

Your primary responsibilities will include the creation and updating of cataloging records within an Integrated Library System (ILS), ensuring that all entries are both precise and comprehensive.

Job Type:
Long-term Contract - both full-time and part-time opportunities are available. Full-time roles are eligible for benefits.

Key Responsibilities:


- Develop Original, Enhanced Minimum Level, and Copy Cataloging records for Hungarian language materials across various subjects.

- Efficiently catalog Hungarian titles by providing essential metadata in MARC21 compliant bibliographic records.

- Classify collections of monographic materials.

- Create and maintain records in an ILS cataloging system, ensuring accuracy and completeness in accordance with NACO standards.

- Provide recommendations for new subject headings and/or classification numbers.

- Keep abreast of advancements in cataloging standards and best practices.


Qualifications:


- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or a related field from an ALA-accredited institution.

- Advanced proficiency in the Hungarian language.

- A minimum of 3 years of cataloging experience.

- Demonstrated expertise in transliteration.

- Strong understanding of cataloging standards, including RDA, AACR2, LCSH, LCC, MARC21, BIBCO, and NACO.

- Familiarity with various library management systems such as Voyager (preferred), ILS, OCLC Connexion, Classification Web, Cataloger's Desktop, and the LC Authorities list.

- Practical experience with metadata and taxonomies for catalog collections.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong collaboration and interpersonal abilities.

- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
