Job Description:

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Utilize independent judgment and discretion to assess, strategize, oversee, and implement the safe and effective discharge/load of client vessels.
  • Evaluate specific vessel configurations, cargo compositions (vehicles, heavy equipment, etc.), vessel turnaround schedules, necessary labor, and staging area accessibility to formulate comprehensive and actionable discharge/load strategies.
  • Convey pertinent elements of vessel discharge/load strategies to and guide/supervise relevant third parties, including vessel crews, planners, voyage management, terminal agents, and labor foremen to execute plans ensuring safe and damage-free cargo handling.
  • Adapt to evolving conditions, priorities, and resources; direct relevant stakeholders to make necessary adjustments to fulfill discharge/load strategies.
  • Employ independent judgment to determine and manage suitable equipment forecasts and inventories to guarantee the availability of necessary resources for achieving discharge/load strategies.
  • Coordinate with maintenance personnel to ensure the proper upkeep of stevedore equipment, ensuring all required equipment is operational and ready for discharge/load strategies.
  • Identify malfunctions in on-vessel vehicles and heavy equipment. Direct and supervise maintenance personnel to address issues.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and implement measures to mitigate negative operational and business impacts from equipment malfunction recurrence.
  • Serve as a liaison and operational interface with third parties, internal and external clients, including vessel carriers, terminal and port stakeholders, and regulatory agents.
  • Lead and promote assigned Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in partnership with team members to ensure targets related to Safety, Quality, Cost & Productivity, Service Delivery, and Environmental standards are met or exceeded.
  • Ensure cargo handling adheres to client guidelines and policies.
  • Identify discrepancies and coordinate with leadership or relevant stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Communicate and direct vessel operations, planners, voyage management, and client port operations to optimize performance and meet service expectations.
  • Maintain a focus on efficient processes and continuous operational enhancement.
  • Fulfill all client requirements regarding reporting and information distribution before, during, and after vessel operations.
  • Ensure all operational reporting is thorough and communicated effectively throughout the vessel operations.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • In-depth knowledge of vessel stevedoring operations.
  • Ability to cultivate and sustain professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and proven capability to execute safe and efficient operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to collaborate in a multicultural environment.
  • Familiarity with labor agreements.
  • Proficient in MS Office Workplace software.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of vessel and terminal operations, including labor contracts, safety regulations, and environmental compliance.
  • Focus on leadership and leveraging talent to enhance operational efficiency.
