Job Summary

The Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care in a hospital setting. This position is responsible for directing and coordinating daily clinical services provided by the Pharmacy department, while also coaching and mentoring staff to ensure compliance with clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directs and coordinates daily clinical services provided by the Pharmacy department
  • Coaches and mentors staff to ensure compliance with clinical standards
  • Advances professional practice through education and certification
  • Facilitates clinical onboarding of new staff
  • Partners with other health professionals and leadership to support and improve patient experience
  • Advances patient care through implementation of evidence-based practice
  • Collaborates with medical/clinical leadership in care coordination
  • Coordinates adverse drug event (ADE) reporting process
  • Designs and implements clinical protocols and quality improvements
  • Maintains and improves department's quality of care and/or service
  • Participates in efforts to reduce costs, streamline work processes, and improve services
  • Promotes innovation and research to advance patient care models

The Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator clearly identifies internal and external customers for their unit or service area and their respective requirements/expectations. They actively seek methods of concurrent and retrospective feedback from customers, listen to customer feedback, and implement solutions and/or interventions as appropriate.

The Coordinator translates organizational vision into a unit or service area vision that engages staff in contributing to and achieving that vision.

Coaching and Development
  • Coaches and monitors staff to ensure compliance with clinical standards
  • Provides just-in-time feedback to improve performance and self-esteem of staff
  • Tracks coaching discussions and actual performance of associates to ensure accountability
  • Seeks ways to match staff members' talents and career interests with organizational opportunities
Continuous Learning

The Coordinator continually examines ways to improve relationships with customers, suppliers, community, etc. They seek and are open to new ideas from a wide range of sources and encourage others to share knowledge and best practices.

Teamwork

The Coordinator demonstrates teamwork by assisting co-workers within and across departments. They lead the department's efforts in being a vital part of the clinical care team.

Additional Key Functions
  • Assists with development of talent through early assessment of high potential, creation of individual development plans, direct mentoring and monitoring of development plans, and developing and monitoring of clinical competencies
  • Coordinates departmental research and investigational drug activity and ensures compliance with Institutional Review Board policies and procedures
  • Maintains the formulary system in conjunction with and prepares meeting materials for the Executive Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
  • Member of and prepares meeting materials for the hospital's Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee
  • Acts as a drug information resource to patients, medical staff, nursing staff, and ancillary department personnel
  • Coordinates the departmental responsibilities for providing experiential education of Pharmacy students and/or residents
Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or PharmD degree, PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Certificate, 3-5 years experience as a hospital pharmacist, Licensed Pharmacist in the State of Illinois, and demonstrates personal alignment with NM's core values of integrity, excellence, patients first, and teamwork
  • Preferred: Master's degree or PGY-2 Pharmacy Residency, Specialty Residency in Critical Care, Board Certification in area of specialty, experience as a hospital Pharmacy manager or coordinator, and Certification in Antimicrobial Stewardship
