Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Bus Driver to join our team at Gaston County Schools. As a Bus Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, as well as on field trips. This is a critical role that requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to student safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely transport students to and from school and on field trips
  • Perform student counts and gather information concerning students and routes as required by the School and Transportation Department
  • Obeys all traffic laws and observes all safety regulations for school buses
  • Maintains student discipline and reports disciplinary matters to the proper authority
  • Keeps assigned bus clean and maintains assigned schedule
  • Checks bus prior to operation for mechanical problems/concerns and notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or schedule delay/lateness
  • Reports all accidents, driving hazards, and other related incidents
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age with at least six (6) months of driving experience with a valid operator's license
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have or be willing to obtain the required commercial Driver's License (CDL) with P and S endorsements
  • Must have no STOP entry appearing on the driving record and successfully complete the classroom and road training course, if not licensed
  • Must possess the ability to work independently with minimum supervision once the job and route are learned and be willing to clean bus after students/passengers daily
  • Must have and maintain a good driving record and be safety conscious
Working Conditions

The work environment for this position is primarily outdoors, with exposure to various weather conditions. The employee will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
