Bus Driver

The Gaston County Schools is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Bus Driver to transport students safely and efficiently to and from school, as well as on field trips. The ideal candidate will possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with P and S endorsements, a clean driving record, and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
• Safely transport students to and from school and on field trips, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Perform student counts and gather information concerning students and routes as required by the School and Transportation Department.
• Maintain a clean and organized bus, adhering to all local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing the safe operation of a school bus.
• Monitor students' behavior and maintain discipline on the bus, reporting any incidents to the proper authority.
• Assist students in boarding and leaving the bus safely, making sure they are in their seats when the bus is in motion.
• Perform routine maintenance checks on the bus, reporting any mechanical issues or concerns to the proper authority.
• Maintain accurate records of student transportation, including attendance and disciplinary actions.
Requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age with at least six (6) months of driving experience with a valid operator's license.
• Must possess a valid CDL with P and S endorsements.
• Must have a clean driving record and a good driving history.
• Must be physically able to operate a school bus, able to climb steps multiple times daily, and possess the ability to quickly decelerate the bus and firmly apply the brake in an emergency situation.
• Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up-to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up-to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions
The Bus Driver will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with students, parents, and school staff on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently with minimum supervision once the job and route are learned, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
