Basic Function:
Under the supervision of an assigned administrator, perform a range of instructional support tasks aimed at assisting individuals and small groups of students with special educational needs, including those with autism, intellectual disabilities, physical and orthopedic challenges, and other recognized disabilities. Responsibilities include facilitating learning activities and addressing the unique requirements of assigned students in areas such as behavior modification, personal care, motor skills, and sensory therapy.

Essential Functions:

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
There are multiple levels of Paraeducators supporting Special Education services, each characterized by increasing responsibilities.
Paraeducator Special Ed - Level I: Supports students with mild to moderate disabilities.
Paraeducator Special Ed - Level II: Assists students with moderate to severe disabilities, providing both instructional and physical support.
Paraeducator Special Ed - Level III: Offers intensive support to students requiring one-on-one assistance for more than half of the day, with a focus on behavioral and academic modifications.
Paraeducator Special Ed - Level IV: Possesses specialized training to identify specific deficits and recommend instructional and behavioral modifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Aid in the creation, preparation, and reinforcement of educational materials and activities for students in the special education program.
2. Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior plans as directed by the assigned teacher.
3. Develop systems for data collection and tracking to inform behavioral and academic adjustments.
4. Assist students with academic tasks, modifying work as necessary and redirecting attention as needed.
5. Support students in developing social, communication, and daily living skills, including personal hygiene and mobility.
6. Monitor and assist students in activities aimed at enhancing motor skills and coordination.
7. Collaborate with teachers and specialists to ensure appropriate materials and programs are in place for student needs.
8. Maintain accurate records and files related to student progress and behavior.
9. Prepare instructional and testing materials, and assist in administering assessments.
10. Observe and manage student behavior according to established procedures, ensuring a safe learning environment.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:

- Basic subjects taught in educational settings.
- Modern instructional techniques and equipment.

ABILITY TO:
- Implement behavior management techniques effectively.
- Support the instructional activities of the assigned learning environment.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Communicate effectively with students and staff.
- Administer basic first aid and CPR as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent, along with two years of experience working with individuals with special educational needs, preferably in an educational context.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid First Aid and CPR certifications are required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Classroom environment, both indoor and outdoor settings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to operate standard office and classroom equipment, and to assist students physically as needed.
