Position Overview:

The Staff Physician plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive medical care and health education to the student body. The physician will typically manage a patient load of 20-25 individuals daily, with the majority of appointments pre-scheduled, although occasional overbooking may occur. In the event of a medical outbreak, the clinical responsibilities may increase significantly. Active participation in the Health Center's accreditation processes and peer review is expected.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee clinical operations for nursing and mid-level healthcare providers.
  • Deliver medical services to a diverse student population.
  • Engage in Health Center meetings and committees.
  • Provide medical insights and outreach to faculty, staff, and students.
Employment Conditions:
  • On-call duties every fourth night for psychological emergencies.
  • Must fulfill the Board of Medicine's requirement of 60 hours of Continuing Medical Education every two years and maintain certification in their primary care specialty.
  • This position is contingent upon ongoing funding availability.
  • Hourly employees are subject to the Virginia Manpower Control Program, with an average limit of 29 hours per week over a twelve-month period.
  • This is a non-exempt role, eligible for overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act during peak periods as directed by the supervisor.
Essential Information:

This position is not eligible for remote work.

Qualifications Required:
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a U.S. accredited residency program and Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine.
  • A minimum of three years of primary care experience.
  • Current CPR and DEA certifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in outpatient care, gynecology, mental health evaluations, and sports medicine.
Compensation:

Hourly rate up to $86, commensurate with experience.

After completing a year of continuous service and working at least 1,000 hours, employees may qualify for holiday pay, paid time off, and educational assistance.
