Position Overview:

The Staff Physician plays a pivotal role in delivering comprehensive medical services and health education to the student body. On average, the physician will manage the care of 20-25 patients daily, with the possibility of additional appointments during peak times. The Health Center is tasked with overseeing the medical needs of the university community, particularly during health crises, which may lead to increased clinical responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise clinical operations for nursing and mid-level healthcare providers.
  • Deliver medical services to a diverse student population.
  • Engage in Health Center meetings and committees to enhance service delivery.
  • Share medical knowledge and insights with faculty, staff, and students through outreach initiatives.
Employment Conditions:
  • On-call duties every fourth night for psychological emergencies.
  • Compliance with the Board of Medicine's requirement of 60 hours of Continuing Medical Education every two years and maintenance of certification in primary care or medical specialty.
  • This position is contingent upon the availability of funding.
  • Hourly employees must adhere to the Virginia Manpower Control Program, with total hours not exceeding an average of 29 hours per week over a twelve-month period.
  • This is a non-exempt role, eligible for overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act, particularly during high-demand periods.

Required Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid medical license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Completion of a U.S. accredited residency program and Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine.
  • Minimum of three years of primary care experience.
  • Current CPR and DEA certifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in outpatient care, gynecology, mental health assessment, and sports medicine.

Compensation:

Up to $86 per hour, commensurate with experience.
