Special Education Assistant

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will provide support services to teachers and other instructional staff in the Special Education Services department.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide support services to teachers and other instructional staff in the Special Education Services department.
- Participate in the development and planning of effective lesson plans, instructional activities, and special school-related events and projects.
- Work directly with students on an individual or group basis to supplement regular instruction, assist with the use of instructional resources and technology, and develop effective learning and study skills.
- Assist with the general supervision of students to enforce appropriate rules and procedures, maintain clear standards of student behavior, and achieve an orderly, functional environment conducive to learning.
- Assist in the planning and scheduling of class field trips and other approved educational activities to support curriculum and guide students in opportunities to best utilize and apply learning experiences.
- Assist students with various mobility needs, including lifting and positioning students, loading and unloading on the bus, and transporting students in and around the school and on field trips.
- Notify appropriate personnel regarding evidence of child abuse/neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide, or students appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
- Monitor and record data on a student's progress or behavior to better meet a student's needs.
- Assist students with personal care tasks, including dressing, hygiene, diapering, toileting, and wash-up routines.
- Provide programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by the teacher, therapist, or speech pathologist.
- Report the special needs of individual students to the teacher and assist students as needed.
- Assist with the use and care of computers and other district equipment and materials in compliance with established policies.
- Prepare, secure, and organize materials, equipment, and resources needed for instructional use, arrange displays and bulletin boards, and perform related clerical and recordkeeping duties.
- Follow confidentiality guidelines with regard to student performance and records.
- Participate in a variety of approved professional development programs as assigned.
An Associate's degree (or higher) or two (2) years of full-time study at an institution of higher education or passing test scores in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics on the WorkKeys assessment.
Physical Requirements:Exerts 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
Terms of Employment:Nine month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
