Job Title: Collaborative Teacher

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Collaborative Teacher to join our team at the Alabama Department of Education. As a Collaborative Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing specialized instruction and correlating lesson plans for special education students within the Huntsville City School System.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and provide comprehensive educational courses of study for special education students, as approved by the HCS Board of Education.
  • Teach special education students in a manner that accommodates their individual skills and abilities, contributing to their educational, social, and career development.
  • Provide a balanced and supportive program of individualized and group instruction, demonstration, activities, and work time to adapt the curriculum to meet the varying needs and learning styles of students.
  • Collaborate with IEP team members to evaluate, recommend, and implement appropriate IEP goals, accommodations, treatments, and services for each student.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons and strive to implement the school district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Establish and enforce appropriate classroom rules and procedures in accordance with district policies and maintain a clear standard of student behavior.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate, complete, and proper records, data, and documentation pertaining to special education students.
  • Communicate effectively with students' parents to establish rapport, discuss academic progress, communicate expectations, and develop plans for improvement.
  • Assess the advancement and accomplishments of special education students on an ongoing basis and prepare progress reports as required.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited university and a valid Alabama teaching certificate endorsed in Special Education.
Physical Requirements:

Exerts 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.

Terms of Employment:

Nine month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
