General Overview

This position necessitates candidates to possess an Associate's Degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited institution and a minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a law enforcement officer in Colorado by the time of hire (P.O.S.T. Certification is mandatory). Candidates who have previously participated in a selection process with the City of Arvada Police Department but were not chosen must wait six months to reapply unless their status has changed to Colorado certified or lateral candidate.

Compensation Structure:

For 2024, the salary range for Police Officers is as follows:

Step 1 annual salary: $83,283
Step 2 annual salary: $89,231
Step 3 annual salary: $95,796
Step 4 annual salary: $102,742
Step 5 annual salary: $110,190

Core Responsibilities

The role involves enforcing all local, state, and federal regulations. Responsibilities include responding to service requests related to both criminal and non-criminal activities, ensuring community safety through emergency services, engaging with the community, and resolving issues. The primary aim is to safeguard human life and enhance the quality of life within the community.

Key Duties Include:
  • Conducting traffic enforcement, including law enforcement, accident investigations, and neighborhood traffic management.
  • Enforcing all applicable laws requiring police intervention, including issuing summons, making arrests, and conducting interviews.
  • Providing continuous patrol across all city areas.
  • Responding to all emergency calls requiring immediate law enforcement action.
  • Documenting all service calls that necessitate reports or written records.
  • Conducting follow-up investigations on criminal reports and preparing cases for the district attorney.
  • Administering first aid as necessary.
  • Participating in assigned special events.
  • Operating emergency vehicles under various conditions.
  • Utilizing data terminals for report preparation and communication.
  • Collecting and preserving evidence from crime scenes.
  • Maintaining physical fitness to ensure proficiency in necessary skills.
  • Employing physical force when necessary to apprehend suspects.
  • Providing court testimony and preparing cases for legal proceedings.
  • Demonstrating high ethical standards and integrity.
  • Initiating proactive community engagement and traffic stops.
  • Attending training sessions to stay updated on legal and procedural changes.
  • Exhibiting a respectful attitude towards colleagues and community members.
  • Making informed decisions within the scope of authority.

Physical demands include lifting, pushing, or pulling objects, as well as engaging in physical confrontations when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess an Associate's Degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited institution and have at least 2 years of relevant law enforcement experience in Colorado (P.O.S.T. Certification required). A valid Colorado Driver's License is also necessary. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and maintain required certifications and fitness levels.
