About the Evansville State Hospital:

Evansville State Hospital is one of Indiana's State Psychiatric Hospitals dedicated to the mission of Hope and Recovery. Situated on 88 acres, our facility specializes in providing medical care for chronic mental health issues and substance use disorders, supported by a committed team of psychiatrists and advanced practice professionals. Our Active Treatment program is designed to help patients achieve their goals while living in the least restrictive environment possible.

Our multidisciplinary team collaborates to assist patients throughout their treatment journey, including medical staff, nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation therapy, and community integration programs. Evansville State Hospital maintains accreditation through The Joint Commission as an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital and is certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services as a Psychiatric Medicare/Medicaid Hospital.

Compensation Overview:

The salary for this position typically begins at $53,222.00, with potential adjustments based on education and relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary duties of this role include:

  • Developing daily and weekly work schedules based on priorities and deadlines.
  • Establishing methods and schedules for maintenance and facility services.
  • Identifying resource requirements, discussing needs with management, and allocating resources accordingly.
  • Delegating tasks to team members, conducting routine checks, and reviewing complex projects.
  • Maintaining operational systems to monitor work orders, preventative maintenance logs, and safety reports.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and quality standards.
  • Regularly inspecting facilities for safety and security issues.
  • Installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining electrical, plumbing, sewage, mechanical, and related systems.
  • Overseeing the operation and maintenance of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
  • Ordering supplies and equipment while adhering to purchasing and bidding procedures.
  • Recruiting, onboarding, and training employees to ensure clarity in role expectations and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Setting performance expectations, providing feedback, and evaluating employee performance to ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures.

Qualifications for Success:

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Advanced knowledge of various trades related to the installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and other systems.
  • Proficient understanding of tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in building and mechanical trades.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations governing facility repair and maintenance.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions for assigned duties.
  • Ability to interpret detailed plans and specifications.
  • Capability to plan long-term schedules for preventative and seasonal maintenance, prioritizing repairs.
  • Competence in estimating costs for repair and construction projects.
  • Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team in both supervisory and technical capacities.
  • Skill in delegating tasks, providing clear direction, and managing workflow.
  • Proficiency in giving constructive feedback, coaching, and developing employee skills.
Supervisory Duties:

This position may involve direct supervision of one or more staff members and requires a high level of judgment and care.
