Job Summary

Supports the efficient workflow of the laboratory by performing various duties, including specimen collection, processing, and patient registration. Assists in maintaining laboratory information systems and provides training to new team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collects and processes patient specimens in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Processes non-blood patient specimens in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Assists in specimen preparation, receipt, and transport.
  • Performs patient registration and provides phone support to patient care areas.
  • Maintains competency with hospital and laboratory information systems.
  • Trains new team members and students in the department.

Physical Requirements

Works in a fast-paced clinical environment with exposure to biohazardous materials, chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Requires standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, and lifting light to moderately heavy loads. Wears personal protective equipment at all times while working with patient specimens.

Education and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED required; Certification in phlebotomy preferred for facilities where phlebotomy is an assigned duty.
