Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Lab Assistant II to join our team at Novant Health. This role is responsible for pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, including order processing, specimen verification, centrifugation, and aliquoting. The successful candidate will be able to make decisions and solve problems, recognizing when to involve leadership support. Additionally, they will be responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are followed and will advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software, as necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, including order processing, specimen verification, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
  • Validating and processing specimens delivered to the laboratory, facilitating timely and appropriate specimen preparation for testing.
  • Performing phlebotomy, as required.
  • Making decisions and solving problems, recognizing when to involve leadership support.
  • Ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
  • Advising and assisting in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software, as necessary.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • One year of relevant phlebotomy and/or specimen processing/laboratory experience, preferred.
  • Phlebotomy Certification – ASCP, NHA, ASPT, AMT or a national accrediting agency approved by Laboratory Senior Leadership, required.
  • MLA certification from ASCP, CMLA certification from AMT, preferred.
