Senior AML Investigations Manager

Mercury is building a comprehensive finance stack for startups, focusing on creating a seamless and secure banking experience for entrepreneurs and business owners. To achieve this, we prioritize protecting Mercury, customers, and the broader financial ecosystem from illicit activities and bad actors.

The AML team conducts thorough investigations, develops procedures, and collaborates with cross-functional partners to prevent, detect, and report money laundering and other unauthorized activities. As the Senior AML Investigations Manager, you will drive and own the AML domain at Mercury, working closely with Compliance, Legal, Risk Strategy, and Risk Product teams to ensure the team has the necessary tools, support, clarity, and resources to excel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of skilled AML investigators responsible for creating operational procedures and conducting account and transaction investigations for money laundering.
  • Mentor, coach, and support senior and junior individual contributors.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Compliance, Legal, Product, Risk Strategy, and additional groups to enhance Mercury's AML program and drive efficiency using data and technology.
  • Increase resilience and scalability of AML operations using process automation and outsourcing when appropriate, and work with Product teams to build capabilities and tools.
  • Suggest new monitoring and controls to address new risks created by new products or changes to existing offerings.
  • Create and own procedures governing Mercury's AML investigations process.
  • Assist and support the design and creation of AML control optimization.
  • Educate internal and external stakeholders on AML investigations at Mercury.
Requirements:
  • 6+ years of work experience in the AML domain, with 8+ years of overall work experience.
  • 4+ years of people management experience, preferably of AML investigators.
  • Strong analytical thinking skills, with a focus on metrics-driven and results-oriented approaches.
  • Deep knowledge of BSA/AML regulations, policies, best practices, and tools.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to motivate teams and secure buy-in from leadership.
  • Comfortable with decision-making in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
Compensation:

The total rewards package at Mercury includes a competitive base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits. Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using reliable compensation survey data. New hire offers are made based on a candidate's experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.

Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are as follows:

  • US employees in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle: $162,000 - $200,000.
  • US employees outside of New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle: $146,900 - $185,000.
  • Canadian employees (any location): CAD 147,800 - CAD 185,000.
