Job Title: Excavator Operator Journeyman

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Excavator Operator Journeyman to join our team at Kiewit Corporation. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment, including excavators, to excavate, move, and grade material on construction sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, to perform tasks such as excavation, loading, hauling, and dumping.
  • Load and transport materials, such as gravel, dirt, and sand, to construction sites.
  • Smooth and grade roads, and spread rock and gravel as needed.
  • Trench and construct ditches for installation of culverts, water pipes, and sewer pipes.
  • Remove silt and debris from construction sites.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Train and instruct employees on the safe operation of heavy equipment and construction techniques.
  • Inspect equipment and structures to identify errors or defects.
  • Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities of materials needed for construction projects.

Requirements:

  • Must possess strong working knowledge and skills for the position.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools, and layout tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and adapt to changing weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl for extended periods.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays as required.

Working Conditions:

Must be able to work in a noisy and dusty environment, and be able to move and work in and around confined and cluttered places. Must be able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Must be able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across construction sites.
