Position Overview:

As a vital member of the healthcare team at Forrest General Hospital, the Registered Dietitian plays a crucial role in planning, directing, and executing nutrition interventions tailored to patients' specific needs. Under the guidance of the Nutrition Services Coordinator, this position requires a deep understanding of nutritional science and the ability to apply this knowledge effectively to enhance patient care.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor while interacting with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Commit to continuous self-education and professional development.
  • Utilize critical thinking and sound judgment in clinical decision-making.
  • Plan and implement effective nutrition interventions based on patient assessments.
  • Provide counseling to patients on various nutrition-related issues.
  • Conduct patient visits as required to enhance satisfaction and care quality.
  • Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of nutrition care, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Practice active listening to understand patient needs.
  • Complete assignments and consults in a timely manner.
  • Be flexible and willing to assist in other areas as needed.
  • Achieve satisfactory results in monthly chart audits.
  • Receive constructive feedback positively and use it for improvement.

Qualifications:

Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or food service management from an accredited institution is required, in line with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics standards. A Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience:
Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred, although those meeting educational qualifications may be considered without experience.

Licensure/Certification:
Upon hire, candidates must possess:

  • Licensure from the Mississippi State Board of Health.
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Mental Requirements:
Exhibit expertise in clinical dietetics and the significance of nutrition in health maintenance. Familiarity with medical terminology, pharmacology, and healthcare systems is essential. Maintain professional standards while ensuring effective communication with physicians, administration, and other healthcare professionals, all while safeguarding patient confidentiality. Demonstrate initiative in problem-solving and possess the ability to operate essential office equipment and calculate therapeutic diets accurately.
