Clinical Nutrition Specialist

Position Overview:
Under the guidance of the Nutrition Services Coordinator, the Registered Dietitian plays a crucial role within the healthcare team. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and executing nutrition interventions tailored to patients based on specific assessment criteria. The ideal candidate will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver care that is appropriate for the patient's age, while being mindful of growth and development principles. A thorough assessment of data reflecting the patient's condition will be conducted to determine their unique requirements and responses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all patient information.
- Exhibit a positive and professional demeanor when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Commit to ongoing self-education and professional development.
- Utilize effective critical thinking and judgment skills.
- Plan, direct, and implement suitable nutrition interventions.
- Counsel patients on various nutrition-related issues.
- Engage with patients as directed to enhance satisfaction scores.
- Monitor and assess the quality and effectiveness of nutrition care, making adjustments as necessary.
- Demonstrate proficient writing and verbal communication skills.
- Practice active listening to understand patient needs.
- Complete consults and assignments punctually.
- Exhibit a willingness to assist in other areas as required.
- Achieve satisfactory results in monthly chart audits.
- Maintain a constructive attitude towards feedback.
Qualifications:
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in nutrition, dietetics, or food service management is required to meet the educational standards set by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for the Dietitian/National Registration Examination. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience:
Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred, although candidates meeting educational qualifications may be considered without prior experience.
Licensure/Certification:
Must be licensed by the Mississippi State Board of Health and registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration upon hire.
Mental Requirements:
Exhibit expertise in clinical dietetic practice and understand the role of nutrition in health maintenance. Knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, and health systems is essential. Maintain professional standards while communicating effectively with physicians, administration, and other healthcare personnel, ensuring confidentiality is upheld. Demonstrate responsiveness and initiative in problem-solving. Proficiency in operating computers, calculators, and copy machines is required, along with the ability to calculate therapeutic diets and coordinate nutritional care activities for assigned patient care areas.
