Senior Director of Tax Strategy

The Senior Director, Tax role is a critical position within the Controllership team at Roku, responsible for driving the company's global tax strategy and ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
This highly visible role requires a seasoned tax professional with a strong track record of leadership and strategic thinking. The successful candidate will provide critical enterprise-wide leadership and drive the company's tax strategy, including tax provision, tax planning, and tax compliance.
Responsibilities- Develop and lead tax strategy, assessing the tax impact of strategic initiatives and driving tax decision-making that improves shareholder value.
- Provide active support and advising leadership in strategic decision-making, due diligence, mergers and acquisitions, complex partnerships, restructuring, and other business initiatives.
- Lead the evolution of Roku's transfer pricing strategy, monitor transfer pricing policies, and related documentation.
- Manage worldwide GAAP tax provision, tax reserves (ASC 450), and related disclosures. Lead compliance with US Federal, US States, and International tax laws and regulations.
- Manage the collaboration with the Company's SEC reporting team and maintain excellent relationships with external auditors.
- Review, analyze, and maintain support for valuation allowances and stock compensation impacts of US and Foreign employees.
- Ensure compliance with US and international tax laws and regulations, US GAAP, SOX, and other domestic and international requirements.
- Actively partner with foreign operations on local tax matters, including income tax, VAT, withholding tax, and other indirect taxes.
- Manage indirect tax compliance and risks, advise on employment tax, and manage global tax audits.
- Champion operational excellence through process improvement and technology transformation.
- Build, maintain, and leverage close working relationships with internal partners, including executive management, financial reporting, accounting, treasury, legal, HR, and business operations.
- Minimum of 15 years of related experience, including 5+ years at a Director level working as part of a corporate tax department within a public technology company.
- CPA license and Big4 experience preferred; Masters in Tax preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years experience building, managing, and motivating a high-performing team of tax professionals.
- Effective communications skills, including the ability to synthesize complex tax issues and strategy and to communicate them in a clear and succinct manner to non-tax executive audiences.
- Experience presenting to the Audit Committee or Board of Directors preferred.
- Experience with tax accounting for valuation allowances, treatment of stock compensation, international tax structure, and cost-sharing structures.
- Experience successfully managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while meeting deadlines and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
- Ability to partner effectively to quickly understand business objectives, propose solutions, and provide actionable guidance for integrating business objectives with tax strategies.
