Tax Director

- Oversee the preparation and review of complex tax returns and government examinations.
- Provide subject matter expertise in tax discipline or industry.
- Ensure client service delivery and manage assignments within budgeted timeframes.
- Lead larger tax returns and delegate tasks to tax preparers as needed.
- Participate in client meetings and tax planning efforts to support the A&A Department.
- Act as a resource for tax preparers and A&A staff on tax-related issues and questions.
- Assume client service responsibility for clients assigned to the Tax Manager or Partner.
- Communicate tax developments and important information to firm personnel.
- Manage government tax examinations and represent clients before taxing authorities.
- Maintain knowledge of tax staff qualifications and review assignments for appropriateness.
- Develop and train tax staff through recruiting, performance evaluations, and professional development programs.
- Ensure accurate and timely billing and collection processes.
- Stay up-to-date on firm philosophy and opinions on tax matters.
- Maintain knowledge of general economic and political trends affecting tax legislation.
- Participate in firm practice development efforts through community and industry activities.
- Responsible for senior, semi-senior, and staff accountant development and training.
- Participate in tax department reviews and evaluations.
- Occasional travel for client work, meetings, and seminars.
- Occasional overtime work required, with heavy overtime from January 1 to April 15.
- Seven to ten years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating tax complexity, scope, and research progression.
- At least two years of experience representing clients before taxing authorities.
- Minimum one year of experience supervising and directing tax preparers.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required, Master's degree in taxation preferred.
- Minimum forty hours of continuing education annually to maintain technical and business skills.
- Current and valid certified public accountant license required.
- Member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
