Key Responsibilities
Position Summary
A Long-Term Care (LTC) Pharmacy Technician collaborates with licensed pharmacists to deliver pharmaceutical services to various long-term care settings, including nursing homes, group homes, adult daycare centers, and assisted living facilities. The primary responsibilities encompass:
- Processing medication orders and ensuring accurate unit dosing.
- Maintaining medical records (MAR) and updating treatment records (TAR).
- Managing literal orders and packaging medications.
- Upkeeping anti-psychotic records.
- Conducting physical counts of emergency medication boxes and reviewing expired medications.
All records generated are subject to review by a licensed pharmacist and must comply with state regulations, which include mandatory surveys that may impose fines for non-compliance. The technician is also responsible for stocking emergency boxes, addressing customer inquiries, and ensuring adherence to state law documentation requirements. Flexibility in hours is essential, as patient care remains the top priority. Technicians will be required to be on-call and ready to provide 24/7 services with a prompt response time.
Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or GED is required.
Licenses: Pharmacy Technician Certification is mandatory, or candidates must be enrolled in a Pharmacy Technician training program and obtain certification within 210 days of hire.
Experience: Previous experience in LTC pharmacy settings is preferred.
