Surgical Supply Specialist

The role involves providing essential support in the sterilization, preparation, and distribution of medical supplies and reusable medical equipment within the healthcare facility.
The incumbent will be responsible for receiving contaminated critical and semi-critical reusable medical equipment (RME) in the decontamination area, along with non-critical equipment as necessary.
QualificationsApplicants who are in the process of completing educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered for preliminary selection but cannot be officially hired until all qualifications are fulfilled.
Essential Requirements:
Citizenship:
Must be a citizen of the United States.
- (Non-citizens may be appointed only when it is not feasible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with relevant guidelines.)
Proficiency in English:
Must demonstrate proficiency in both spoken and written English as per established standards.
Foreign Education:
Education obtained outside the U.S. must be evaluated by a recognized organization specializing in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials, ensuring it is equivalent to U.S. standards.
- Such education must be deemed comparable to that acquired in conventional U.S. programs.
Experience and/or Education:
- At least six months of experience that showcases the applicant's capability to perform the duties required, or
- One year of education beyond high school, including at least 6 semester hours in healthcare-related courses such as sterile processing, nursing assistance, or surgical technician training, or
- An equivalent combination of experience and education is acceptable for entry-level positions.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires work in various environments including decontamination, preparation, and clean sterile supply areas. The incumbent may face conditions that are hot, cold, or poorly lit and must be prepared for potential hazards associated with handling medical equipment.
Regular duties include:
- Receiving and processing contaminated medical equipment.
- Disassembling RME and determining appropriate cleaning methods.
- Inspecting and packaging items for sterilization.
- Documenting operational checks and maintaining compliance with established protocols.
Continued education and certification are required to maintain qualifications in this role.
Work ScheduleThis position operates on a standard schedule, Monday to Friday, with specified hours.
Additional InformationThis role does not offer telework options and is not a virtual position.
