Position Overview:
The Patient Transport Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the secure and efficient movement of patients and residents within the healthcare facility. This position is responsible for escorting individuals to various medical appointments and other essential engagements related to their treatment. Additionally, the coordinator will assist in documentation and adhere to established protocols during transportation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safe transport and escort of patients and residents to medical appointments and other necessary engagements.
- Follow established transportation protocols to prevent unauthorized departures and monitor for potential escape incidents.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and maintain necessary documentation to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Complete trip authorizations and document any incidents using the appropriate reporting systems.
- Participate actively in the retrieval of patients on conditional release who require return to the facility.
- Provide observational support in units or common areas during gaps in the transportation schedule.
- Deliver equipment and supplies as needed and transport laboratory specimens following established procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Understanding of basic mental health principles and patient rights.
- Proficiency in basic computer operations and communication techniques.
- Knowledge of motor vehicle laws and emergency procedures.
- Ability to adapt to changing patient conditions and respond appropriately in various situations.
- Demonstrated flexibility in scheduling and adaptability to diverse patient needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a transportation or safety role, preferably within a healthcare or institutional setting, is highly desirable. A combination of relevant training and experience that meets the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is also acceptable.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Compliance with fingerprint clearance requirements as mandated.
