Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Formulation Chemist to join our team. As a key member of our formulation development team, you will be responsible for designing, formulating, and optimizing new personal care products, including skincare, haircare, and bath & body products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, formulation, and optimization of new personal care products, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Manage multiple formulation projects from concept to commercialization, including raw material selection, prototype development, stability testing, and scale-up processes.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, new raw materials, and advancements in formulation technology, applying this knowledge to innovate and improve product offerings.
  • Troubleshoot formulas and offer suggested solutions to issues of performance, stability, and/or production.
  • Collaborate with the account management team to facilitate projects to completion and answer and troubleshoot any customer concerns.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of formulation work, including ERP system and data updates, laboratory notebooks, batch records, and project reports, to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
  • Write, review, and troubleshoot SOPs as needed to meet both cGMP and FDA requirements, as well as formula briefs to provide to clients.
  • Participate in client meetings to present formulation options, explain technical challenges, and discuss potential improvements to meet client needs and market demands.
  • Work with procurement and supply chain teams to select cost-effective raw materials without compromising product efficacy or quality.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Chemistry.
  • 8+ years of experience in formulation development within the personal care or cosmetic industry.
  • Intimate working knowledge of standard and advanced cosmetic raw materials used in skin care, hair care, body care, as well as anhydrous systems.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations (FDA, EU, etc.) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize formulations under tight deadlines.
  • Experience in clean beauty formulations, working with vegan, cruelty-free, and sustainably sourced ingredients.
  • Experience scaling formulations from lab to production, with knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience supervising or mentoring junior chemists or lab personnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams and clients.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and the ERP system, as well as being comfortable learning our in-house programs.
