About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Chemist to join our Color Science team at Sherwin-Williams. As a key member of our R&D team, you will be responsible for leading activities related to color science projects for both coil and spray applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the assessment, development, quality, maintenance, and enhancement of products, equipment, and processes through planning and executing with clear and accurate results.
  • Accountable for the solutions to technical problems: product or process related.
  • Demonstrate significant knowledge and use of chemicals, raw materials, tints, substrates, color theory, and lab instruments, including spectrophotometers.
  • Ability to lead and complete individual work on multiple projects of varying complexity, including those of the highest complexity with minimal direction.
  • Accountable for providing timely and accurate project updates.
  • Cross-functional interactions with other groups to gain insight, opinions, and drive progress.
  • Liaison between Color Science lab and Architectural team to support new business growth for coil and extrusion markets.
  • Provides team support, demonstrated by helping a team member, exhibiting team spirit, and providing suggestions and resources to overcome obstacles.
  • Adhere to company safety guidelines at all times.
  • Mentor lesser-experienced chemists in the laboratory.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of lab coatings experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of color theory experience.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years' experience in both coil and/or spray application.
