Position Overview:
Location: Methodist Fremont Health Hospital
The Culinary Specialist will skillfully and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a diverse range of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods, including Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Special/Catered Events. In long-term care settings, responsibilities encompass assisting with dining room service. In retail environments, duties include food setup and serving from counters and steam tables, maintaining supplies, and assisting with cleanup and closure.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
1. Adheres to established recipes and/or product guidelines for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other food items for consumption in dining establishments.
2. Evaluates products, reviews menus, estimates food needs, monitors production, and maintains records to accurately plan production requirements and request supplies and equipment.
3. Requires intermediate to advanced knife skills.
4. Prepares food by utilizing various kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut, and shred fruits and vegetables, and trim and cut meat, poultry, or fish for culinary purposes.
5. Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing workstations and equipment.
6. Participates in all allergy and foodborne illness training sessions.
7. Engages in regular safety meetings, training, and hazard assessments.
8. May receive inventory, move and lift food items and supplies, and prepare meals for customers with special dietary needs.
9. May perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Work Schedule:
Monday- Friday, Every Other Weekend, Rotating
Shifts may include: 6:00-2:30, 6:30-3:00, 11:30-8:00pm, 4:00-8:00pm

Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) preferred.
- Prior experience in meal preparation or cooking.
- Maintains a professional rapport with all coworkers, supervisors, managers, vendor representatives, customers, client representatives, patients, and residents.
- Presents oneself in a highly professional manner and understands the importance of honesty and ethics.
- Possesses a positive attitude.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and other departments with professionalism and respect.
- Proficient in using a computer and basic math skills.
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment is required.
- Ability to read and follow recipes independently.
- Applies advanced cooking techniques.
- Extensive knowledge of food preparation processes.
- May adapt procedures, tools, equipment, and techniques to fulfill the requirements of the position.
- Knowledge of basic operating equipment.
Physical
- Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus, with or without corrective lenses.
- Significant mobility is required.
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.
- Primarily indoors; however, may involve outdoor activities and events.
- Varied schedule including evenings, holidays, weekends, and extended hours as needed.
- While performing job duties, the employee is mainly in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during outdoor activities.
- The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to loud.
