Position Title: Wood Shop Worker
Location: St. Charles, MO

Position Summary:
The Wood Shop Worker is integral to the creation of wooden cabinets and displays for custom trailers, exhibits, and vehicles. This skilled role is well-suited for individuals aiming to advance their careers within the manufacturing sector. A comprehensive understanding of woodworking techniques, tools, and safety protocols is essential. The position involves working with various materials, including laminates and solid surfaces, requiring meticulous attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate under moderate supervision to ensure that projects align with customer specifications, quality benchmarks, and deadlines.
  • Provide mentorship and assistance to fellow Wood Shop team members.
  • Utilize woodworking machinery such as saws, sanders, planers, lathes, and routers to cut, shape, and finish wooden components.
  • Assemble wooden parts using hand tools, adhesives, nails, screws, and clamps, ensuring precise alignment and fitting.
  • Apply stains, varnishes, paints, or other finishes to wooden products, ensuring a smooth and even application.
  • Interpret and adhere to detailed blueprints, drawings, and specifications to guarantee accurate production of wood products.
  • Select, measure, and cut wood and other materials according to project specifications.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on woodworking equipment to ensure tools remain in optimal working condition.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and regulations to maintain a secure and organized work environment.
  • Inspect finished products for quality, making adjustments as necessary to meet required standards.
  • Manage inventory of wood, hardware, and other materials, reporting any shortages or needs to supervisors.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in cabinetry and/or woodworking.
  • Proficient in mechanical aptitude, reading tape measures and protractors, and using air and electric hand tools.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues and learn quickly.
  • Strong safety awareness and housekeeping skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to present work interpretations.
  • Positive attitude towards team collaboration and interdepartmental relations.
  • Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Capability to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a custom woodworking environment.
  • Associate's degree in Carpentry or a related field, or completion of a Vocational High School Carpentry program.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to use respiratory protection as needed.
  • Capable of standing for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to perform various physical activities including standing, walking, sitting, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, balancing, and reaching overhead.
  • Vision capabilities required include close and/or color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is conducted in a manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection is mandatory.
