Job Summary

The Dayton, Ohio Veterans Affairs Medical Center is seeking a highly qualified Safety and Occupational Health Specialist to join their team. As a key member of the Safety Service, this individual will be responsible for managing a specific functional part of the VHA Medical facility SOH Program (Industrial Hygiene, Operational Safety, Facility Safety and Environmental Safety/GEMS) and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with SOH standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

The Safety and Occupational Health Specialist will be responsible for:

* Coordinating VA standardized Environment of Care (EOC) rounds and other compliance inspections to identify and evaluate risk potential in various work environments and occupations

* Directing investigations of accidents, analyzing precipitating factors and accident cause data to develop specific methods for prevention

* Preparing safety guides and internal instructions for low safety and normal safety risks encountered in assigned areas of responsibility

* Advising senior-level management officials on the status of the safety and occupational health programs and recommending changes in the design of work programs to meet new safety and occupational health standards

Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:

* One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation

* Education: Applicants may substitute education for required experience. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work
