About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Geotechnical Engineering Intern to join our team at Arup. As a Geotechnical Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including desk study reports, subsurface information database systems, and geotechnical investigation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare desk study reports on sites due for development
  • Use and manage subsurface information database systems
  • Observe construction site works and geotechnical investigation
  • Log and describe properties of geological (soil and rock) materials to aid design and construction works
  • Prepare laboratory test schedules
  • Interpret subsurface conditions and understand their impact on design and construction
  • Carry-out shallow and deep foundation design, slope stability calculations, and seismic assessments
  • Support the completion of temporary support-of-excavation designs, including for basements, shafts, and cut-and-cover tunnels/subway stations
  • Conduct preliminary ground movement predictions, hydrogeological impact and building damage assessments
  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams (e.g.structural, civil, bridges & civil structures) to designs for subsurface elements
  • Observe the installation of subsurface elements during construction
Requirements
  • Pursuing Master's or PhD of Science in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering/Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills essential for team-based working
  • Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges
  • Able to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work, and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment
  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels
  • Proficient in developing code and common coding languages
  • Proficient in geotechnical engineering analysis software preferred

Los Angeles Hiring Range: $23.50 to $35 per hour. San Francisco Hiring Range: $26 to $37 per hour.
