Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Social Services Specialist to join our team in Shelby County. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with clients and caregivers.

About the Role

This position involves assisting clients by addressing their social and financial healthcare needs, providing general supervision, making appropriate medical placements, and conducting healthcare needs assessments. The successful candidate will be responsible for conferring with caregivers and creditors, investigating and negotiating clients' bills, monitoring personal and real property, and maintaining medication inventory.

The ideal candidate will have three years of experience in a social services environment, statistical work, or a related field. They will also possess a high school diploma or equivalent, or two years of experience in a social services environment with one year of college study from an accredited college or university.

Key Responsibilities
  • Confer with caregivers and creditors to discuss client needs and negotiate bills.
  • Investigate and negotiate clients' bills to ensure accurate payments.
  • Monitor personal and real property to ensure compliance with departmental regulations.
  • Maintain medication inventory to prevent discrepancies and errors.
  • Qualify clients for Medicaid spend down to ensure access to essential healthcare services.
  • Maintain and update departmental reports to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Attend care conferences to discuss client needs and develop plans for their care.
  • Conduct quarterly assessments to evaluate client progress and adjust care plans as needed.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for the Public Conservator Program to enhance community engagement and support.
  • Participate in regular Coordinated Community Response meetings to collaborate with other agencies and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Degree: High school diploma or equivalent, or two years of experience in a social services environment with one year of college study from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Three years of experience in a social services environment, statistical work, or a related field.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of administrative functions, programs, policies, and procedures.
    • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Knowledge of organizational, financial (including budgeting, accounting, and/or auditing), purchasing, and/or personnel management techniques.
    • Knowledge of Shelby County program and policies and services and related federal, state, and local programs.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and maintain an even flow of work.
  • Ability to provide effective customer service in a fast-paced environment.
Benefits

This role offers a competitive salary range of $45,000 - $60,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings, and paid time off.
