Job Title: Behavioral Specialist

Job Summary:
Memphis-Shelby County Schools is seeking a dynamic Behavioral Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a courageous thinker and doer, prepared to navigate and thrive in a complex and ambiguous environment. They will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and implementing support programs and services to ensure the academic and social success of students.

Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with teachers, staff, counselors, parents/guardians, and others to assist students and families in achieving optimal academic and social success.
• Work effectively with parents and staff to improve the quality of life for their children.
• Serve as an advocate for students and families and as a liaison between families and appropriate agencies which can provide services to those in need of additional assistance.
• Assess the need for professional intervention services, including psychological, social, or medical services, and make the appropriate referrals.

Requirements:
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and two (2) years of related experience in Head Start, Social Work/Sociology.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations and build strong relationships with families and community partners.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a team and provide excellent customer service.
• Ability to assess needs and develop effective plans to support students and families.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound judgements.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Willingness to attend training, conferences, and workshops as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
• Ability to perform routine administrative/office tasks as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, copying, and filing documents.

Working Conditions:
• Work is performed in a standard office environment with occasional travel to community locations.
• Must be able to sit for extended periods and use a computer and other office equipment.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
