Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Plans Examiner to join our team at the City of Salem, OR. As a key member of our Community Development Department, you will be responsible for coordinating and assigning plan reviews, as well as performing technical work as a Plans Examiner II.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and assign plan reviews for commercial and residential projects
  • Perform technical work as a Plans Examiner II, including reviewing plans and specifications for compliance with municipal codes and engineering standards
  • Counsel customers on appropriate permits, building code requirements, and plan review submittal requirements
  • Enter accurate data into computer records and calculate fees
  • Work independently and manage daily plan review timelines while interacting with walk-in customers
Requirements
  • Graduation from a two-year college, university, or trades school with major coursework in construction, code enforcement, or plans review
  • Five years of experience in building construction at journey or foreman level and in building code enforcement involving lead work experience
  • Certification as Commercial Plans Examiner (State of Oregon Structural Plans Examiner A Level (PEA) and Fire and Life Safety Plans Examiner (PEF) certification) and/or Commercial Structural Inspector A Level (State of Oregon SIA certification)
