Academic Coach for Students with Special Needs

Job Summary:
KIPP Memphis Public Schools is seeking an Academic Coach for Students with Special Needs to join our team. As a leader in providing high-quality education for students who need us most, we are committed to creating joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue their paths.
About the Role:
The Academic Coach for Students with Special Needs will provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's Individualized Educational Program (IEP). This includes assessing student progress, determining the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques, and employing various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students, including present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals
- Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with child study team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies
- Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP
- Plans a program of study and unit/weekly/daily lessons that align with the school's curriculum and meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
- Creats a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
- Implement, by instruction and action, the region's philosophy of education, the KIPP Memphis curriculum, and instructional goals and objectives
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to assure safety in the classroom and the school for all students
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
- Assists the administrative team in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
Requirements:
- Active Tennessee state licensure and certification - endorsement matching subject area & grade band
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education and specialty area
- Knowledge and skills in working with children with behavior and emotional disabilities
- Commitment to working with educationally underserved students
- Commitment to the design and development of the school
- Bachelor's degree
Estimated Salary:
$60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
