Position Overview

The Department of Surgery at Atrium Health is actively seeking a qualified faculty member at the Assistant Professor level to enhance our breast surgery program. The selected candidate will be compensated based on their experience and qualifications.

The primary clinical responsibilities will involve breast surgery, with expertise in techniques such as breast-conserving surgery, nipple and skin-sparing mastectomies, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and axillary node dissection.

Applicants must be board certified or eligible, have completed a fellowship in breast surgery accredited by SSO/ASBrS, and possess eligibility for an unrestricted medical license in North Carolina. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in performing breast and axillary surgical procedures, engage in a multidisciplinary breast clinic alongside medical and radiation oncologists, and uphold a commitment to high standards of quality and patient safety.

In addition to clinical duties, the candidate will contribute to the education of general surgery residents, fellows, and medical students. An interest in clinical and translational research is highly encouraged, supported by a robust research infrastructure.

The new faculty member will collaborate with a team of nine active Surgical Oncology faculty, treating patients with a variety of malignancies including melanoma, sarcoma, and breast cancer. The breast service is a vital part of the Surgical Oncology Service, attracting patients from a wide geographic area.

The Breast Care Center (BCC) is under the leadership of Dr. Howard-McNatt, supported by Drs. Levine and Charity Glass, along with a team of mid-level providers. The multidisciplinary breast cancer clinic operates on select days, integrating surgical, medical, and radiation oncology services, supported by nurse navigators, plastic surgeons, genetic counselors, and research nurses.

The BCC has recently renewed its NAPBC certification, ensuring ongoing accreditation. The breast surgery team actively participates in significant research initiatives, including NRG and Alliance trials, as well as investigator-initiated studies.
